Do you ever find yourself knowing what you “should” do, or receiving great advice from your friends and family that you know you should probably take, but for some reason you just can’t make yourself do it?

I will support you in becoming a more competent, confident driver of your own life. I believe the healing effect of therapy is co-created between the therapist and client as we work together to build a relationship based on empathy and attunement, the safety to be honest without fear of judgement or expectation, and the reassurance that I will be your companion walking beside you as you confront the scariest emotions and issues in your life. I primarily use a psychodynamic and relational approach based on empathic reflection, secure attachment, & emotion-focused modalities, as well as existential, narrative, Gestalt, DBT, and motivational interviewing techniques.

As a former Educational Therapist, I have specialized training and extensive experience in working with learning disorders, ADHD, anxiety, processing & executive function disorders. Additionally, I have a background in the entertainment industry and understand the unique concerns and stressors that the members of our artistic community in Los Angeles must contend with.

I'll always respect you as the expert on your own life and, while I may point out patterns I notice or throw out options to consider, I believe that the best solutions to your problems will be found inside yourself. My true function is to keep you company on the path of self-discovery. I work with my clients on many areas of focus, including depression, anxiety, performance anxiety, grief, conflict in relationships, developing a greater sense of purpose, self-acceptance, life transitions, career transitions, improving interpersonal skills, increasing distress tolerance, and replacing maladaptive thoughts or coping strategies with more effective and flexible alternatives.

MY WORK WITH:

you

I have spent the last 20 years in Educational Therapy, working one-on-one with students from the age of 9 all the way through high school graduation, and have specialized training in learning disorders, ADHD, anxiety, and processing & executive function disorders. I know first-hand the pressures today’s adolescents and teens face, and the struggle of parents trying to guide them through increasingly complex childhood challenges such as learning differences, the pressure to achieve as college admissions become increasingly competitive, the fallout of divorce and stress of blending families, increasing rates of childhood depression and anxiety, and the constant distractions of technology that must be balanced with a growing need for interpersonal connection as off-line socialization opportunities become less common. The impacts of Covid isolation and school disruptions have only exacerbated these issues, and the delays in not only academic learning but also social, emotional, and interpersonal development are still affecting the current generation. My goal is to help my young clients learn the skills they need to effectively overcome these issues and establish happy, meaningful, secure relationships with their families and friends as they become more confident in their own abilities to tackle the challenges life will send their way.

I am passionate about working with whole families. In fact, my interest in transitioning from education to psychotherapy grew out of my desire to help families in deeper, more far-reaching ways. I work with families to build more effective communication and interpersonal skills, reduce power struggles and conflict, replace ineffective patterns with more effective strategies for getting everyone what they most want, and increase secure attachment and trust between all family members. I primarily utilize positive parenting techniques, Structural Family Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems strategies with families.

MY WORK WITH:

your family

I believe the early 20s are one of the most important times of life when good therapy can have possibly the greatest positive impact on your future. The transition into young adulthood is a key time of both possibility and confusion, when you separate from your family of origin and begin to negotiate new, adult relationships with parents and siblings. When you may be challenged in college or graduate school or your career, live on your own for the first time, and explore new romantic relationships and friendships that may come and go quickly--or become the most long lasting relationships of your life! I will help you establish the kinds of relationships you really want, and help you better determine the values that matter most to you in establishing a satisfying career and work/life balance. My goal is to help my young adult clients engage in mindful and purposeful life construction, increase their sense of independence and exploration, open themselves to new life, love, and career possibilities, determine their own values, and feel enthusiastic rather than frightened about the transitions they are undergoing. Most of all, when that most shocking moment of life comes––that moment when you look for the adult in the room and realize YOU are the adult––I want you to face it with confidence, not panic.

you, in your twenties

I am an Associate MFT/PCC (AMFT143781) with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University with dual specializations in Marriage & Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling. Originally from New Hampshire, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Dartmouth College before moving to Los Angeles, and I still have a bit of that rugged, independent New Englander streak. I also love animals, I absolutely believe your pet is an appropriate topic of discussion for therapy, and every stray in the neighborhood knows that no cat (and even no possum) leaves my patio hungry. I am supervised by Madisen Siegel (LMFT 114566).
